DVR and NVR Footage Recovery (Security Cameras)

Do you need security camera footage that no longer shows up? DVRs and NVRs store video on hard drives in formats specific to the manufacturer, and they record in a loop: when the disk is full, they write over the oldest footage. We work on the disk to recover the video that has not been overwritten yet, which is why every hour counts.

When do you need this service?

  • You need footage that was deleted or no longer shows up on the recorder
  • The recorder kept running and may have overwritten the section you need
  • The DVR or NVR will not power on or does not show the recordings
  • You took the disk out and the computer does not recognise it or asks to format it
  • The recorder was knocked, caught in a fire or flooded

Technical process

  1. Receipt of the recorder or the disk, noting the date and time of the footage you need
  2. Recovery of access to the data on the disk and extraction of a binary copy
  3. Technical evaluation: condition of the disk and the manufacturer format. This stage has a cost.
  4. Analysis of the recorder file system and location of the video fragments for the requested period
  5. Reconstruction and export of the video to a format you can play
  6. Delivery of the files and the technical details of the process

Frequently asked questions

Can you recover video the recorder has already overwritten?

Video overwritten by a new recording cannot be recovered. That is why the most important thing is to stop the recording as soon as possible: whatever has not been overwritten is still on the disk.

Should I bring the whole recorder or just the disk?

If you can, bring the recorder with the disk inside: it helps identify the format and the configuration. If you have already removed it, bring the disk without connecting it to any computer.

Can the recovered video be used as evidence?

We deliver the video and a technical report on the process, for your own decision-making. It is not a court-valid expert opinion, which requires an accredited expert appointed under the relevant procedure. If the video is part of a case, we can provide technical support to the expert or lawyer handling it.

What does the evaluation cost?

The technical evaluation has a cost, because it involves specialist diagnostic time. Based on its results we give you a quotation before carrying out the recovery.
