When do you need this service?
- Sun or Oracle server running Solaris that will not boot or lost a drive in the array
- IBM server running AIX or HP server running HP-UX with damaged drives or a volume that will not mount
- Fibre Channel, SAS or SCSI drives with 520 or 528 bytes per sector that an ordinary computer cannot read
- Legacy system with no spare hardware, holding information that must be preserved
- Database or application that only runs on that server and has to be opened again exactly as it was
Technical process
- You tell us what server it is (brand, model and operating system) and what happened
- Technical evaluation in the laboratory (it has a cost)
- Recovery of access to the data on each drive and extraction of a binary copy
- Reconstruction of the array, if there is one, and extraction of the files
- If the whole system has to be brought up, we study the case: depending on the platform, we do it on the server itself, on compatible hardware provided by the customer or on an emulator
- Delivery of the information to the owner or to whoever you authorize
Frequently asked questions
Which file systems do you handle?
Solaris: UFS and ZFS. IBM AIX: JFS and JFS2. HP-UX: VxFS and HFS. We read them from the binary copy of each drive, without needing the original server.
Do you handle Sun and Oracle servers with SPARC processors?
Yes. We read the drives from Sun and Oracle servers running Solaris, both SPARC and x86, and extract the files from UFS or ZFS. Drives from a SPARC server use a format of Sun's own that an ordinary computer does not recognize; in the laboratory we can read them. Sending us the drives is enough, with the position of each one marked.
Do you need the original server to work?
No. The drives are enough: we recover access to their data, extract a binary copy and get the files from it, even if the server does not power on or no longer exists.
My drives have 520 or 528-byte sectors. Is that a problem?
No. It is common in enterprise servers and arrays. We read them in the laboratory even if an ordinary computer does not recognize them.
What if I need the system running, for example to open a database exactly as it was?
We study each case. Depending on the platform, we can do it on the server itself, which we receive in the laboratory, on compatible hardware provided by the customer or on an emulator.
What should I do in the meantime?
Do not restart the server over and over or try to rebuild the array: every attempt can overwrite information. Power it off, mark the position of each drive and contact us.
Do you keep a copy of my files?
We do not keep copies of your information once the case is closed, unless you request it.
Will your Unix server not boot?
Write to us and we will get back to you straight away, 24/7/365.
We answer in English by email and WhatsApp. Phone calls are answered in Spanish.
